The birth of Agasthiyar *

There had been various legends regarding the birth of Agasthiyar, however here i could put forth only two of those legends.

One from the curse of lord Indra (celestial king) on lord Agni and lord Vayu. So he had been the fusion of both lord Agni and lord Vayu.

Another one from the curse on celestial beauty vurvasi by lord Mithra (Air), for she had thought lord Varuna in her mind, while she had been in relationship with Mithra.

Legend 2

There had been another legend about the birth of Agasthiyar.

On those days, the ocean had been dominated by the lord Mitran (Air) and lord Varunan (water) and they had been ruling the reign of water resources. Lord Mitra, having stunned by the beauty of celestial angel 'Vurvasi', had invited her to have a relationship with him.

She also accepted for that. At the same time, lord Varunan also wanted to have relationship with her. But she refused his proposal, for she had already accepted Mithra's relationship. Having known the reply of Vurvasi, Varunan had told her that he too had the equal power of that what Mithran had, and urged her to accept his proposal.

Vurvasi had been in dilemma that what to do, since she didn't want to get his enmity. For that, an alternate idea had been proposed by Varunan, that even she could have a relationship with Mithra, during that time, she would have bear him (Varunan) in her mind.

Having planned already by both Varuna and Vurvasi, when she had been with mithra, she thought Varuna in her mind. Having known this by his super power, Mithra got angry over Vurvasi and had cursed her to take birth in the earth.

At the same time, both Mithra and Varuna had released their 'Veeryam' (semen), because of having the lust over her. Out of these two 'Veeryams', one had been transformed into the sage 'Vasistar' and came out from the ocean and the another one had transformed into the sage 'Agasthiyar' and came out from the 'Kumbham'.

Since he had came out from the 'Kumbham', he had been called as 'Kumbhayoni'and 'Kudamuni'. Agasthiyar had been directed by lord Shiva to balance the world, when it had been raised up in the north, due to the holy wedding of lord Shiva with goddess sri Parvathi Devi at Kailash. Having accepted the lord's order, Agasthiar as a single person had gone to south and balanced the world as usual.

Birth secrets of Agasthiyar *

Legend 1

Once upon there lived a demon called Tharagan and his fellows, had done a lot of ruins at earth. In order to destroy him and his men, lord Indra (celestial king) accompanied with lord Agni and lord vayu reached the earth.

Having seen them, the demon Tharagan and his men had hidden beneath the sea. Lord Indra had ordered the lord Agni to evaporate all the sea water in order to kill the demon. Having denied to that proposal of lord Indra, lord Agni told that if he could have done that, all the water resources in the earth would have been destroyed.

In course of time, as time passed, the wicked deeds of the demons had also increased. This annoyed lord Indra and cursed both the 'Agni' and the 'Vayu' to be taken birth at the earth.

He ordered lord Agni to go to earth along with lord Vayu and could take birth from the Kumbham (pot) in order to drink all the sea water for the demise of the demon and his men. As per the curse of lord Indra, the 'birth of Agasthiyar' had happened, as the fusion of both 'Agni' & 'Vayu', the sage Agsthiyar had taken birth from the Kumbham, so that he drank all the sea water and by this the lord Indra had destroyed the demon Tharagan and his men.

'Kumbhayoni' and 'Kudamuni'. Agasthiyar had been directed by lord Shiva to balance the world, when it had been raised up in the north, due to the holy wedding of lord Shiva with goddess sri Parvathi Devi at Kailash. Having accepted the lord's order, Agasthiar as a single person had gone to south and balanced the world as usual

Agasthiyar and his disciple Tholkapiyar *

Once Agasthiyar asked one of his prime disciples, Tholkapiyar that he should brought his (Agasthiyar's) wife Ulopamuthirai from the country of Vitharpa. Having accepted the order of Agasthiyar, Tholkapiar had asked his guru that how should he bring Agasthiyar's wife with him.

Agasthiyar told him that he should maintain about 4 feet gap on both front and back with his (Agasthiyar's) wife. Having held this in mind, Tholkapiar also reached the country 'Vitharpa', and asked her to come with him.

While returning their way back to home, Both of them had to cross the the flood in river vaigai. Having remembered his guru's order in mind, he asked her to hold a stick as a grip between both, in order to cross the river safely.

They both reached safely to the place of Agasthiyar's and explained him that how they had crossed the river. Agasthiar, having anger on it's peak, had cursed both of them that they hardly could get the heaven.

Having stunned by that, Tholkapiar, in his turn, also cursed his guru the same, what he had imposed on them, since Tholkapiar hadn't done any fault by all means. On behalf of that bitter experience, Tholkapiar had been directed to 'Aathankottasiriyan', while he had submitted his grammatical book 'Tholkapiam' to his guru Agasthiyar for the test-research about his book.

Agasthiyar and the demons Vathabi & Vilvalan *

Once there lived two wicked demons called Vathabi and Vilvalan at the ghats of Vinthya. They had followed one unique method of eating the corpse by having trapped the innocent people by inviting them for a grand feast.

The innocent people, having thought their speech as original, also came to their place, expecting for a good feast there. Then Vilvalan made Vathabi as a grand feast and served them up to their belly to be filled fully.

After having finished the dinner, Vilvalan said "Vathabi come out". At once, Vathabi had torn out the stomach of innocent people and came out. So by having followed this method, they both had have their food regularly.

One day, Having seen Agasthiyar, they invited him to have a feast with them. By having known their cruelty, he also accepted their offer. As usual, Vilvalan turned Vathabi into a grand feast and served Agasthiar.

Agasthiyar, after having eaten the feast (Vathabi), said that the food he had eaten, would have been digested fully, just by touching his belly. Vilvalan, without having known the fact, had called Vathabi to come out, but all in vain. He called Vathabi for several times without knowing that he had been digested

Vilvalan became frightened and fell down over the feet of Agasthiar and asked to forgive him for his past wicked activities. Agasthiar also had forgiven him and asked him to live sincerely thereafter.

Hi Kailash, your words are 100% right. The sage and also a great Siddha Agasthiyar is "Siranjeevi" (always alive)and He has been always with us. Under His spiritual guidance we should walk in the word of darkness, which is surrounded by ignorance, injustice and cruelty.

Hi Raakachi,

Nice and informative article.

Ancient history and lost civilizations has been of immense interest to me. I have been trying to find out more on Lemuria and Kumari kandam. Do you have any idea about right sources of information on these lost continents? I've read that there are references to Kumari Kandam in Sangam literature; but in case you know of any other references please let me know. I think ancient civilizations were far more advanced and nature friendly than the modern age. Had the lessons taught in the ancient scripts been taken and implemented more seriously, the world would've been a better place to live in today. Also, do you have any idea when is the Kali yuga going to end? Thanks once again.
