Thiru Uthirakosa Mangai * - A spiritual search near Ramanathapuram ~*

The temple's grand festival of Aruthra Dharisam*
The grand festival here is the 'Aruthra Dharisanam', means the 'Maraghatha [Emarald] stone made Natarajar Idol' has been made to take holy-bath on the day before the birth star of lord Shiva which is 'Thiruvathirai', which comes under the Tamil month of Margazhi (Dec-Jan). Only that day, the Maragatha idol of lord Nataraja (lord Shiva's cosmic dance posture) is bathed with various abiseham and then finally decorated with Sandalwood paste, applied on the idol and the shrine is locked. Thereafter there would be no abisegham to that idol, only to the small crystal maraghatha lingam there.
The various tower views of the temple Uthirakosamangai *
Click thumbnail to view full-sizeThe Name itself has been split into uthiram - Kosam - Mangai. Here uthiram means 'preaching', kosam means 'secret', mangai means 'woman', here it denotes 'Goddess Parvathi devi'. So this has been the place where lord Shiva preached the secret to Goddess Parvati.
It's been well situated at 19 K.M. south west from Ramanathapuram and within the reach of 7 K.M, from Thirupullani which is one of the 108 Divya Deshams of Vaishnavaite's on the way to Madurai-Rameshwaram National highways.
Here lord Shiva is in the name of Mangalanathar and Parvathi is in the name of Manghaleshwari. Here the theertham is Agni. This Uhirakosamangai has been the main cause in the birth secret of Manickavasagar, a fierce disciple of lord Shiva who composed Thiruvasagam and the same had been said that it could have been written by lord Shiva Himself, when Manickavasagar had sung it orally.
Apart from that festival, the routine abisegam has been done to small Spadiga lingam (Linga made up of crystal) at the lord Natarajar shrine every day between 12 - 12.30 P.M. It's been a worth to worship in the spiritual point of view.
After worshiping that Spadigha linga dharsan, we have been offered to eat the mid day meal by the temple premises. It's been a very good food arranged by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu under free meals scheme at some of the particular temples in Tamil Nadu every day.
Here a unique controversial ritual of having offered 'Thazham Poo' to lord Mangalanathar is in operation, where as from Kasi to Kanyakumari (Cape camerin) it's not in custom to offer 'Thazham Poo', since it had been cursed by lord Shiva, due to the reason of having told lie, as to support lord Brahmah, when lord Brahmah and lord Vishnu had engaged in a competition of finding lord Shivas's 'Adi Mudi', means the foot and the head, when lord Shiva had taken 'Vishwaroopam of glowing fire' at Thiruvannamalai.
Here is the Isthalam (place) where 'Thazham Poo' had been curse released and hence it is offered as the pooja flower for lord Shiva. As that flower had been curse retrieved here, one who offer this flower to lord Mangalanathar at the time of 'Prathosam', it's said to be that person's curse could have been released.
Here the Isthala Virutcham (temple tree) is Ilanthai tree which had been over 3000 years of age old.
The Poojaa Time table:-
Thiruvananthal - Morning - 6-7 A.M
Vina pooja - Morning - 7-8 A.M
Kalasanthi - Morning - 9-9.30 A.M
Uchikalam - Aft.Noon - 12-12.30 P.M
Sayaratchai - Evening - 5 -6 P.M
Arthajamam - Night - 8-8.30
It's been said that if one could see 120 Prathosams in his/her lif , he/she certainly wouldn't have re-birth at all.
